I started working on this project with a friend in the spring. Our first trip being the Ridge Road Run. I rode on the back of a long haired, leather wearing, road warrior's hard tail after establishing long enough eye contact to know I could trust him and then held on for dear life. I would let go long enough to catch a shot of the madness that provoked the dust and take a moment to fall into it's disorienting spell . I am not sure if it was trusting a total stranger with my life, not having front brakes, or the shock to my spinal chord but I gained a deeper respect for living within those couple of hours shared between us. I gained a deeper understanding of the bond created between two wheels, and found strength in the resiliency that keeps us going on the most painful of paths. It was by far one of my favorite memories of this summer and honestly there are so many fucking good ones.
( Summer recap post coming soon...)
This project lead me to a lot of really beautiful and unexpected experiences;most involving men my father's age and all revealing a little bit of truth about the object and the power it holds. As strangers open their garage doors to me or shared insight about their machine I witnessed the relationship that is developed between a man and his motorcycle. I began to understand a lot about what strength can lie within the material. As I listened to the stories each man had about their dedication to these time worn, american made machines,I became aware of the sacrifices one is willing to make for the relationship, the time one is willing to dedicate to it, the bonds that can be created within the love for it, and the lifestyle that is developed because of it.
The relationship becomes so apparent as I look back now at the shots of each man's individual way of riding. The placement of his hands on the machine, the facial expressions the wind forces out of him or the way he takes the turn. Each movement or decision made while participating with the object revealing a clue about the truth of the individual.
It is with absolute joy that I take part in this project and with absolute gratitude I invite the revelations the participation brings.
Ladies and Gentlemen...
